Faculty Resources UCR benefits from an unusually large number of faculty involved in research on gender and sexuality. This breadth and depth of faculty resources help our students complete their major or minor in Women's Studies in a timely manner - even if they enter the program as transfers. Department faculty are full-time in Women's Studies or hold joint appointments with arts, humanities, or social science departments. Affiliated faculty in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences routinely offer courses cross-listed with Women's Studies or teach courses on gender or sexuality that are listed as "approved electives" for the Women's Studies majors and minors. Our affiliated faculty in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences teach courses on sexuality, reproduction, or the biology of sex differences. Our faculty and affiliates come to Women's Studies from a range of social science or humanities disciplines. Departmental faculty have received research funding from federal, state, and private agencies. A number have done field research or taught in other countries. All are highly productive scholars, well recognized in their fields. Most also have an "activist" facet to their academic life, working with local groups in the United States or in other countries on issues confronting women. Alongside such professional prominence, our faculty pride themselves on their innovative and effective teaching. Students consistently rate our faculty and courses very favorably. See sample course outlines at the Women's Studies entry in Blackboard 5. |
